This year the World Poker Tour is moving its grand finale from the Bellagio in Las Vegas to the Borgata in Atlantic City, and to celebrate they’re guaranteeing a prize pool of $5 million and a first-place prize of $1.35 million.
With a $15,400 price tag, direct buy-in to this event is reserved for high-stakes poker pros or wealthy amateurs, but Party Poker is giving everyone the chance to qualify online for far less, or even free.
Party Poker’s $18,000 WPT Championship packages include:
- $15,400 Main Event buy-in
- 6 nights’ hotel and hospitality
- $1,350 travel and spending money
Players can win their package in a variety of ways, from daily freerolls up to the $500 buy-in WPT World Championship online satellites which run March 9, 23 and April 6 and guarantee one package each.
Players can win their way into the $500 satellites through daily $5 turbo qualifiers, $2 re-buy tournaments and daily $50 satellites.
“It’s big news that the WPT World Championship has moved east to Atlantic City for the first time in its history and with $5 million guaranteed it means first place will take home at least $1,350,000,” said Team Party Poker pro and WPT commentator Mike Sexton.
Lower Buy-In Makes WPT Championships More Accessible to Online Qualifiers
Before this year the WPT Championships featured a huge $25,000 buy-in but that’s been dropped to $15,400 for 2014.
The list of past winners reads like a who’s who of poker's elite, and this year recreational players will have a chance to qualify and compete against the best players in the world.
Two years ago German pro Marvin Rettenmaier took the title, and almost $1.2 million.
“Winning the WPT World Championship was one of the greatest days of my life and to do it in my first week as a member of Team partypoker was just the cherry on top,” said Rettenmaier.
“It is rare to see many online qualifiers for bigger buy-in events so I for one will be aiming to secure a seat as one is guaranteed in the $500 entry satellites on March 9, 23 and April 6. Even better I am going to try and freeroll my way in!”
