Pros go heads-up at the bottom of the sea

By: Lianne Elias

Rob Varkonyi and Juha Helppi are scheduled to compete heads-up at the bottom of the sea today in a show of extreme poker playing at this year's Caribbean Poker Classic (CPC) in St. Kitts.

Pro player Juha Helppi and World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Rob Varkonyi will pull on wet suits and scuba gear and descend 20 feet into the Ocean to play heads-up at a weighted, deep sea poker table. The two pros will play with custom-made weighted poker chips and waterproof cards. The tournament will end when one player has all the chips, floats to the surface, or runs out of air.

The second annual CPC is being held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino until December 4. The $6,300 main event boasts an estimated prize pool of $2 million. Rob Varkonyi and Juha Helppi are slated to compete in the land-based event alongside fellow pros Kathy Liebert, Jennifer Tilly, Willie Tann, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Julian Thew, and Simon Trumper.
