Prime Minister wants two supercasinos
By Sarah Polson
British Prime Minister Tony Blair made statements this week indicating that the proposal for a supercasino would be reintroduced, and perhaps both locations vying for a license should be given approval.
The House of Lords threw out the original plans for a supercasino in Manchester back in March. Manchester had been competing with Blackpool for the first license.
Blair told MPs that the proposal would be reintroduced very shortly by the Ministers.
According to the Daily Mail, he said, "Personally, I have never seen the reason why we should have Blackpool and Manchester pitted against each other. If the investment is there and able to be done, let's do both of them."
This goes against Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell's plan to only open one supercasino.
Blair's spokesman confirmed with the Daily Mail that Jowell stood by her commitment not to approve any more supercasinos during the life of the current Parliament.
