Premier League: Only Five Players Advance to Final Table

James Dempsey
WSOP bracelet winner James Dempsey tops Group A for the second time.

Action has been halted during the third heat of the Party Poker Premier League Mixed Game Championship even though only five of the six spots at tomorrow’s final table are officially filled.

Through to the finale from Group A are James Dempsey, Max Pescatori and Matt Giannetti. Action in Group B, however, was halted three-handed when the TV crew’s time limit was reached.

Action will resume tomorrow morning at 10am to decide the second half of the final table with Sorel Mizzi leading Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Andrew Feldman.

Feldman and Andy Frankenberger are already guaranteed a final-table seat meaning Mizzi and Timoshenko will content the final spot tomorrow.

Group A: Dempsey Dominates with Win Number Two

The third heat of this Mixed Game Championship was played to the tune of Pot-Limit Hold’em and it saw Brit James Dempsey navigate his way to his second outright win.

Dempsey defeated his five opponents in the first heat, playing No-Limit Hold’em, and did it again today to secure a seat at tomorrow’s final table.

Before the third heat began Max Pescatori was in first place points-wise, and despite busting in fifth he’ll also make an appearance at Thursday’s finale.

Matt Giannetti finished runner-up to Dempsey and secured the final ticket to advance. Giannetti is riding a serious heater including his fourth-place finish at the WSOP Main Event and his win at WPT Malta.

Tony G busted in fourth place, missing out on the final table. The same went for Luke Schwartz and Jennifer Tilly who finished sixth and third, respectively.

Here are the final points standings for Group A:

  • James Dempsey: 24 points
  • Max Pescatori: 20 points
  • Matt Giannetti: 19 points
  • Tony G: 10 points
  • Luke Schwartz: 6 points
  • Jennifer Tilly: 6 points

Group B: ***Update*** Mizzi Makes Final Table

Since the time of publishing this article Sorel Mizzi advanced to the final table with a victory over Yevgeniy Timoshenko in Heat 3. Andrew Feldman finished third.

Time ran out on the camera crew’s day with three players still standing in Group B’s third heat and Sorel Mizzi will be in the lead when action resumes tomorrow.

The Canadian leads Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Andrew Feldman three-handed.

Feldman, who won the first heat and used his double-up card, was the only player with a guaranteed spot at the final table. But, since players’ final table stack sizes will depend on how many points they finish with, Feldman still had something on the line today.

First out this afternoon was Party Poker qualifier Ben Carpenter. Coming into the third heat with just four points, Carpenter couldn’t get the big result he would have needed to advance.

Team Party Poker pro Mike Sexton was next out, getting it all-in good with A-J against Timoshenko’s A-9 but failing to make the best hand hold up.

Out in fourth was Andy Frankenberger who locked up a spot at tomorrow’s final table with his finish today.

Action resumes tomorrow at 10am at the Playboy Club in London.
