PPT Season 2 delayed until 2007
By Lianne Elias
The second season of the Professional Poker Tour (PPT) has been delayed until 2007 pending the negotiation of acceptable broadcasting agreements. PPT events scheduled to take place at Foxwoods Resort Casino and Bellagio this November have been postponed.
"While we continue to negotiate the broadcast of the second season we have decided to delay these tournaments for the benefit of players who need to make long-term travel arrangements as well as the league itself," World Poker Tour (WPT) said in a statement on its Web site.
"We expect to resume filming in 2007. Until then, we look forward to seeing you on the World Poker Tour. Thank you for your continued support."
PPT, which is owned by World Poker Tour Enterprises, Inc., was expected to debut its second season Sept. 11 during the WPT Borgata Poker Open in Atlantic City, N.J. It was postponed until Nov. 7 when it was slated to begin during the WPT World Poker Finals at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.
The Sept. debut was put on hold while WPTE found an appropriate broadcast outlet for the show.
Season I of the PPT aired on the Travel Channel, but the network opted not to pick up the second season. WPTE have since been embroiled in a legal battle with the Travel Channel over the PPT. Their dispute was eventually resolved.
