PPA's finances disclosed - $1.2 million received in 2005
By Erik Sylven
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has released its 2005 Form 990 tax return to the public. The lobby organization received almost $1.2 million in "direct public support" during 2005, with lobbying activities and advertising marketing as the major expenses.
Donors have criticised the PPA in the past, wondering how the money they have given actually was being used. In response to this criticism, PPA has released the tax return form, even though it's not required.
The tax return shows that the PPA received $1.2 million in "direct public support" during 2005. How much that came from membership fees and how much that came from direct donations is not specified.
The PPA listed almost $400,000 in assets for 2005, $83,000 in cash and the rest as inventory.
PPA's expenses during 2005 are also disclosed in the tax return form:
Lobbying activities - $220,000
Advertising marketing - $278,000
Wages - $135,000 (including $25,000 to the members of the Board of Directors)
Legal fees - $111,000
