PPA, eCOGRA reps speak to legislatures about online gambling

By Sarah Polson

Representatives from legislatures across the United States met this past week in Key West for the National Conference of State Legislatures. During the conference, representatives from the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) and eCommerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) had a chance to speak to the group about online gambling.

Michael Bolcerek, PPA president, and Frank Catania, eCOGRA director, each had a chance to brief delegates about Internet gambling.

While they didn't discuss the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act passed by the federal government, they were able to convey the finer points of Internet gambling as well as attempt to give the delegates a better understanding of the responsible side of the industry.

Bolcerek's presentation was about the positive aspects of federal licensing and regulation of Internet poker in the United States. He told media he felt the meeting was productive.

He also said that state legislators still need a lot of education about Internet poker and hopes this is a step in moving them in the right direction.
