PokerTek gets approval in Iowa

Phil Laak puts the PokerPro Heads-Up table to the test.
By Sarah Polson
PokerTek Inc. announced today that it has received a temporary license from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. The Commission has also approved the PokerPro system for field trial.
With the license and approval for PokerPro, PokerTek becomes the first provider of automated poker for the state of Iowa.
"We're proud to have received our company license and product approval for field trial," said Chris Halligan, PokerTek CEO. "We look forward to beginning our field trial and introducing the benefits of automated poker to Iowa."
The company hasn't yet announced where the PokerPro tables will make their debut in the state.
PokerPro is a dealerless, electronic poker table with screens for players to see their cards and to make their bets electronically.
It is designed to provide Texas Hold'em without casinos having to outfit a card room and train dealers. The system also eliminates dealer error.
With PokerPro, games are nearly twice as fast as those dealt by a real dealer, which makes them more profitable for players and the casino.
