PokerStars.com is launching a freeroll tournament today that will offer participants a chance to win several big prizes including an Aston Martin DB9 Volante, a trip to the Bahamas, and part of more than $1 million in cash prizes.
The Moneymaker Millionaire tournament, named after Chris Moneymaker, who turned a $39 PokerStars.com satellite win into a $2.5 million first place win in the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2003, starts today at 7 p.m. (GMT) and will continue until December 2006. It will include a series of daily, weekly and monthly online tournaments that will run at various times to accommodate players from all over the world.
According to PokerStars.com, the tournaments give all players a chance at becoming a "Moneymaker."
Throughout the course of the tournament, 27 finalists will win a one-week trip to the Bahamas, including roundtrip airfare and accommodations for two people at the Atlantis Island Resort. Those 27 players will then play at the final tables of the Moneymaker Millionaire tournament at the resort.
Moneymaker himself will also be in the Bahamas for the finals to offer his support and tips for the players.
"PokerStars.com gave me the experience I needed to become a champion," Moneymaker said. "Now everyone, regardless of their poker experience, has the chance to win part of a gigantic prize pool of $2.5 million - the same amount I won in the World Series of Poker."
Finalists will compete for the first place prize of $1 million in cash and prizes, including the Aston Martin, and $1 million in cash payments that will be awarded amongst the finalists. $500,000 will also be distributed to online players who don't make it to the Bahamas.
