PokerStars all-in for Caribbean Adventure
The first day of autumn has officially come and gone as of Sept. 23 and left many people longing for those summer days as fall weather sets in. Once can only imagine how that longing will increase as fall creeps into winter, but perhaps you can win a reprieve with a trip to the Caribbean in January from PokerStars.
The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure has become a tradition for the poker site as well as a staple in the poker world, and it will be returning once again Jan. 5-11, 2008, giving poker players a chance to play and get some sun at the Atlantis Resort & Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
In the PokerStars blog, the poker site said, "If you've been before, very little is changing about the event. The only exception is actually pretty exciting. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is now a European Poker Tour event."
John Duthie, EPT creator, and the European Poker Tour production team are going to turn the PCA into an international poker spectacle. According to PokerStars, this translates to more satellites, more players and even bigger prizes.
The satellites kicked off on Monday, and players can choose from three different satellite paths to win a $12,000 prize package to the EPT event or there are also ways to win through Tournament Leaderboard paths.
One path is through the daily $2 satellites with re-buys at 6:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Players from there will move on to the $33 buy-in daily satellite with re-buys where they'll have a shot at a prize package.
Another path is through the $5.50 buy-in daily satellites at 4:45 p.m., 7:05 p.m. and 9:25 p.m. as well as 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
These satellites are also re-buy events and will earn players seats in the daily $175 buy-in double shootout. The double shootouts are scheduled for 7:15 p.m., 9:35 p.m. and 11:55 p.m. as well as 12:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
The third path starts with daily cash tournaments ranging in buy-ins from $3 up to $86 for players to move on to the weekly cash round taking place each Saturday at 5 p.m. With a $615+$35 buy-in, the weekly tournament will award one prize package for every $12,000 in the prize pool.
The free route to prize packages includes special events for tournament leaderboard winners as well as tournaments using poker points.
There are daily FPP tournaments for 100 or 1,000 FPPs that will move players on to the weekly FPP event that has a direct buy-in of 10,000 FPPs. Three prize packages will be awarded at each weekly FPP event.
Players competing in the tournament leaderboard will have two opportunities to win a prize package as well.
The top 150 tournament leaderboard players for the period of Jan. 1 to Oct. 31 will be entered into TLB Main Event 1 playing Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. Nine prize packages will be awarded through the tournament.
A second TLB Main Event will play out Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. for the top 100 tournament leaderboard players for Nov. 1-30. That event will have four prize packages up for grabs.
The prize packages include the $8,000 buy-in for the main event of the Caribbean Adventure as well as $4,000 for travel and accommodations.
The 2007 event saw 937 players take to the felt in the comfort of the Caribbean, with Ryan Daut battling his way to the win. His reward turned out to be a $1.5 million payday, and players can probably look forward to a top prize just as big for the 2008 event.
