PokerStars Adding Table Games, Sports Betting to Software

PokerStars will introduce table games and sports betting to its global client over the coming weeks, according to a statement released today.

The site will begin with blackjack and roulette in select markets but will roll out more games in 2015.

"We are taking the same principles, practices and integrity that make PokerStars such a successful and beloved brand and applying them to new verticals," said PokerStars Head of Corporate Communications Eric Hollreiser in a press release.

"These new products will also support the development of poker and grow the overall business.”

PokerStars was one of the few sites that previously didn’t offer any non-poker casino games. The Rational Group’s other poker site - Full Tilt - rolled out an in-client casino in early 2014.

A total of 30% of poker players on Full Tilt play the casino games regularly according to the Rational Group.

Poker Players Will be Able to Opt Out of Casino

Some poker purists have criticized the move on the forums but Hollreiser says the change may end up having a positive effect on the community, citing increased volume and more frequent deposits:

Those launches have been successful in reactivating dormant customers, and extending the value of our existing poker customers.

The experience on our poker platforms to-date also shows increases in net player deposits following the addition of casino games and a negligible impact on poker spend.

We are confident these games will create more value to our PokerStars site and bolster the core poker offering.

Interestingly PokerStars will give poker players the ability to opt out of casino games and the corresponding direct marketing and promos.
