Poker top search word for Lycos in 2006
By Sarah Polson
If keyword searches are any indication, poker was definitely hot in 2006. Lycos reported this week that poker was the number one searched word on their search engine for the year.
Lycos compiles a weekly list of the top searched words on its site, and poker has consistently been ranked high on it all year long.
The term first made its appearance on the Lycos year-end list in 2004. It was number 10 that year, and climbed quickly to the number four spot in 2005.
A 434% jump in search activity the past year propelled it to the number one spot this year. It edged out several, very popular searches such as Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton and MySpace.
The top 10 searches for 2006 were:
- Poker
- MySpace
- RuneScape
- Pamela Anderson
- Paris Hilton
- Pokemon
- WWE
- Gold
- Spyware
- Britney Spears
Lycos also listed poker as the number one fad to watch in the upcoming year based on its growing search queries.
The year-end list from Lycos is based on user searches on the site from Jan. 1, 2006, to Nov. 25, 2006.
