Poker Stars Software
The PokerStars software and network are privately owned and developed and the software is one of the absolute best in the business. Aside from its great feel, exceptional stability and nice aesthetic, it's also fast, highly customizable, stable, secure and caters well to the multi-table player.
With the growing number of players logging in to play at PokerStars, the software is continuously updated and improved to accomodate them.
The software in its current version handles in excess of 120,000 real-money players at peak hours and does so very well.
In late 2007 PokerStars also released the long-awaited Mac-compatible version of its software, allowing Mac players to access the software directly rather than through a third-party Windows emulator.
The Mac version of the client is virtually identical to the standard Windows download version, missing only the Layout Manager and the Preferred Seat features in its current version.
Statistics
The statistics and information functions in the PokerStars software are top notch. The software allows the player access to a wide array of data on just about everything.
The lobby shows the selected games, and for a highlighted table it shows the names of the players seated and their stack at the table. It also displays the number of players waiting to join the table and who they are.
Hand data is available during play and can also be requested from the site for analysis. In the game, the software provides a quick callback of the last 200 hands, notes on other players and the usual statistics on percentages of action in different hands.
One added bonus is the PokerStars software recalculates the pot size after each player's action and keeps separate statistics for each of your game types. Overall, the statistics functions are great and it's apparent PokerStars is listening to its players when developing new functions.
Being the largest poker room in the world and setting the standard for most third party software, PokerStars's statistics are compatible with virtually all analytics software available on the market - a great advantage for serious players wanting to dive deep into their hand history and analyze their play.
Multi-Table
The PokerStars software supports advanced multi-tabling, with resizable tables and the possibility of playing up to 24 cash games at a time and an unlimited amount of tournaments and sit-and-gos - basically letting the user decide how many tables he can play before he reaches his limit.
As a result, it attracts some of the best tournament players in the world who sometimes play at over 20 tables at a time. A player can also choose and save what position he wants to view the table from, what size he wants the tables to be and individual themes for each table - all to give the player more control of the software and the gaming experience.
To further the multi-table playing experience, the PokerStars software also lets the user automatically tile or cascade the open tables. Custom game profiles can be edited and saved, letting the player customize his entire playing experience to the max - something that is especially important for the hordes of multi-table players at PokerStars.
Graphics
The PokerStars graphics are some of the most praised in the business; clean, crisp, easy to understand and highly customizable. Some players think the software is almost too clean cut, but in general, people appreciate the straightforward and intuitive look.
Due to the large amount of customization available, the look and feel can easily be changed and every player should be able to find a combination that makes him/her happy. To personalize the software, players can upload an image representing them to use as their avatar when playing.
Thankfully, there is also the option to block player images and rid your poker table of cats, dogs and the occasional Playboy bunny. The software sports several backgrounds and table layouts, and with some tinkering players can pretty much make it look and sound exactly how they want.
PokerStars has also now added a hand replayer directly in to the software, allowing players to graphically revisit their recent hands without leaving the table.
Special Features
The PokerStars software is great. You can request separate hand histories for ring and tournament games, buy and sell tournament dollars and visit the different tournament leaderboards.
Other than that, there are no special functions that jump out, but it is very good software that works and looks top of the line and should be good enough for everyone. PokerStars remains one of the most celebrated poker rooms according to PokerListings players and the software is second to none.
