Review

Poker Secrets from Poker Champs, a part of the Learn from the Legends series, features Susie Isaacs and a slew of high profile poker celebrities divulging their tips and tricks on how to win the big bucks. The DVD consists of interviews with poker pros on subjects such as bankroll management, reads, bluffs, control, and other relatively specific situations. The pros interviewed are some of the world's greatest, including Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, and Ted Forrest.

Susie, who's won major tournaments herself and has certainly previously met the players she interviews, comes across as a friendly and knowledgeable woman. The interviews are interesting and fun, and the stars seem very comfortable with Susie and the questions she asks.

This DVD is supposed to reveal the "secrets" of the pros to the viewers to help improve their game, but that goal isn't reached. Unfortunately, the interviews are short and on subjects that don't connect well. The production is also sub-standard in terms of what a viewer expects from a poker DVD today but, to be fair, it has been on the market for a few years.

To get their money's worth out of this production, viewers must like listening to the pros talk and have at least some interest in just watching the greatest players in the world. For most potential buyers, there are many better productions when it comes to teaching poker tactics and strategy.

The DVD consists of 15 chapters on different aspects of poker:

  1. Image
  2. Control, Baby
  3. Work
  4. Playing the Zone
  5. You're Never Too Old
  6. Playing in the Kitchen
  7. The New Kid on the Block
  8. Start Small
  9. The Getaway
  10. Prepare for Success
  11. Persevere
  12. Bluffing 101
  13. A Lifetime to Learn
  14. Curiosity Killed the Bankroll
  15. Be in the Moment

Plus there's an extra chapter on one of the most important subjects to a winning poker player - money management.

The total playing time of the DVD is just under 2.5 hours, including bonus material.
