Poker's In and Out List: Grundy Steps Up, ElkY Steps Out
Another week is upon us and we're here to arm you with a brand new set of opinions to get you through those water-cooler convos at the office.
We were gladdened, saddened and angered this week. Read on for the whole story.
Poker’s In List: August 29-September 3
Ben “milkybarkid” Grundy: In
Veteran online high-stakes pro Ben Grundy has stepped up to the plate this week, earning himself the top spot on our In List.
For years Grundy’s profit graphes have astounded incredulous poker fans and illustrated his inexorable climb to almost $8 million in profits.
A new thread began on two plus two, questioning the accuracy of his graphs and Grundy wasted no time putting his money where his mouth is.
Grundy issued a challenge on his blog that will let skeptics put up $60k if they doubt his ability to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he’s pulled that much money in playing online poker.
PartyPoker is in this week thanks to ongoing efforts to bring the online poker room State-side once again.
bwin.party co-CEO Jim Ryan confirmed this week that the company is making serious progress in positioning themselves for a return to the US market, if and when online poker become regulated.
The company seeks to partner its PartyPoker and WPT brands with a land-based operator to provide online poker at both the state and federal level, should that prove possible.
Epic Poker: In
Epic poker gets a spot on out In list this week by continuing to give away money like it’s going out of style.
The Pro-Am event happening right now at the Palms in Las Vegas guaranteed nine $20,000 EPL main event seats. The only problem was that only 97 players bought in, 35 less than was needed to satisfy the guarantee.
Epic Poker kicked in the difference, which is really just a drop in the bucket compared to the $2 million the tour is giving away to its players in the first season alone.
Poker’s Out List: August 29-September 3
ElkY is out today, literally. He busted the WCOOP $10,000 High Roller today on PokerStars.com before late registration had even ended.
In ElkY’s defense he did get it in with a set against a flush draw, according to his Twitter account.
And at least he wasn’t the very first person to go broke in this tournament. That honor belongs to Jymaster11.
Also out very early were Sebastian Ruthenberg, Ville Wahlbeck and Max Lykov.
Cancer has always been out but that sentiment is especially present this week with the passing of poker player Thuy Doan.
Doan was born in Vietnam and moved to the US at age seven. She was a professional poker player who put herself through college playing cards.
Our sincerest condolences go out to her friends and family.
