PokerRoom: The Grand to guarantee $1 million
By Sean Lind
PokerRoom is pumping up the Grand like a 1990s pair of Reeboks. The already impressive $500,000 guarantee is being upped to a ballin $1 million for May 30.
The Grand is a monthly tournament that runs on the last weekend of each month. It is PokerRoom's largest event and is spread across three days in a flight event format.
With May 30 - June 2 marking the 25th edition of the $1,000+$40 tournament, PokerRoom will double the pay without any additional buy-in.
In a press release from the site, spokesperson Hendrik Knopp exclaims his excitement for the event:
"We are excited to celebrate the 25th edition of the Grand with our players. Players frequently comment on the uniqueness of this three-day tournament. An anniversary game is just one of the ways we continually offer players the challenges and prize pots they want."
For players unfamiliar with the play structure of the Grand, it is a No-Limit Texas Hold'em Freezeout that features:
- $10,000 starting stacks
- 30-minute blind increases
- Three scheduled days of play
- $1,000+$40 buy-in
If you want to play in the event without paying the $1,000+$40 buy-in, there are a multitude of ways to qualify for as little as $1.10 on the site.
For the sit-and-go players, there are Mad Tilt Satellites for $5+50¢ building up through $20+$2 and $50+$4 sit-and-go qualifiers to get into the Grand.
Players who prefer tournaments have plenty of options as well, with the Mad Tilt Rebuy starting at $1+10¢ on up to the GT Qualifiers for $100+$8.
