What should you do? Correct Answer: Check/fold Check and fold. His most likely hand here is a pocket pair – probably lower than your pair. Pre-flop he would have presumably reraised with a pocket pair higher than eight; however, he flat-called the original raise. When you three-bet he decided to call, likely hoping to flop a set and stack you. However, he hit a board decent for a mid pocket pair, which explains the flop call and the turn check. Your opponent will likely check the river through, although if he does decide to bet there is a fairly good chance your hand is no good. This is because he knows that a bet on the river does not accomplish anything. A mid pocket pair has good showdown value. If he bets the river he has either nothing, or a hand that he can value bet. It’s very unlikely that he has nothing, since he called the flop and there were no draws. Thus odds are he’s value betting you.
