Question

You're playing in the later stages of an online tournament. The money is approaching but is still a little while away. In this hand, it's folded around to you in the hi-jack.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Raise All-in

The best play is to raise all-in. If you raise small and are shoved on, you'll be priced in to call anyways so just shove all-in and take the option of shoving away from your opponents. You have just over 10bb and every blind steal adds 30% to your stack.

  • Fold (34%)
  • Raise to $3,600 (24%)
  • Call (9%)
  • Raise All-in (33%)

Question

In your six-max game online it's folded around to you on the button. You raise to $6 and the small blind folds. The big blind, a tight and very ABC regular, re-raises to $25 and you call. The flop comes 5 8 7.Your opponent c-bets $40.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Raise

While all three options are probably fine, raising is probably the best. The reason being when your ABC opponent raises and then c-bets this board, his hand is very face up as an overpair. This board is not very good for overpairs and is extremely difficult to play out of position and deep stacked vs. a raise. Raise and very often your opponent will simply fold his overpair. If he does call, you do have a gutshot and a back oor flush draw and you can always fire multiple barrels. Calling and folding are both fine, but raising has a higher expectation.

Question

You’re playing in a six-max game online. In this hand a regular in the cut-off raises to $7 and you’re the only one to call in the big blind. The flop comes J 4 2. You check and he bets $10. You call and the turn comes A. You check and he bets $24.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

You should call again. Even the most basic of opponents knows an ace is a great double-barrel card. As such, your opponent will be firing 100% of his range in this spot. Call again - you’re probably good.

  • Fold (79%)
  • Call (10%)

Question

In your online six-max game it’s folded to you on the button. You raise to $6. The small blind folds and the aggressive regular in the big blind calls. The flop comes T 8 5. The big blind checks. You bet $10 and the big blind check-raises to $45.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fold

Unfortunately this is a spot where you’re either slightly ahead (if he has a flush draw or combo draw) or way behind (If he has a set or an overpair). The best play is to fold right now.

  • Call (44%)

Question

In your six-max game online it’s folded around to you in the cut-off. You raise to $8 and a regular calls on the button. The small blind folds and another regular calls in the big blind. The flop comes 9 9 6 and the big blind leads for $20. You call and the button folds. The turn comes 5 and he bets $55.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fold

This is a spot where a fold is best. It’s highly unlikely that your opponent led into two people with a bluff. Furthermore it’s even less likely that he would bet the turn again with a hand that you beat. You’re getting value-towned here. Fold now on the turn and don’t call again only to fold the river.

Question

In your six-max game online a very tight, unimaginative player raises under the gun to $8. Everyone folds to you and you call. The flop comes Q T 5. You check and he checks behind. The turn comes the J. You bet $14 and he raises to $55.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

This spot is pretty tricky. Your opponent is really only representing one hand - AK. It's unlikely for him to check back any sets, two pairs or overpairs on the flop so when he all of a sudden comes alive with a raise he almost always has the hand he's representing - especially if he's a tight, unimaginative opponent. Calling and seeing if the board pairs is the best play here.

Question

In your six-max game online you raise to $8 under the gun and it's folded around to the fish in the big blind. He calls and the flop comes Q J 4. He checks and you bet $16. He thinks and calls. The turn comes Q and he shoves for $74.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

Kind of an ugly turn card but it's still a call. Why would your opponent shove as soon as he hit his three of a kind? More likely he either has a jack he thinks is good now or he's still on the draw trying to rep the queen. Make the call; fish do crazy things.
