Question

You're playing in the middle stages of an online MTT. Your image is one of the more aggressive ones at the table and it feels like the players on your left are ready to play back at you. In this hand you raise to $1,200 and the player directly on your left raises all-in for $8,300. It's folded to the player in the small blind who shoves for $15,000.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

It's an ugly spot but you have to call. You've got just more than 20bb and your opponent could be shoving a wide range. The small blind could have realized that and be looking to snap him off with something like JJ or AQ or sometimes even worse. You could also be flipping for a very large pot. So, far away from the money, you have to make this call. If you win the pot you have a big stack and if you lose, well, you're out.

Question

In your six-max game online a player limps under the gun and you raise to $8. The button and blinds fold and the limper calls. The flop comes 5 5 8. The limper bets $40.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Raise

Just shove all-in. When your opponent bets this big he's probably not folding. And, given the fact that he limped from UTG then called a raise without a full stack, he's almost surely a fish. Expect him to have a draw here or a weak pair.

Question

In your six-max game you raise to $6 on the button and a short stack in the small blind shoves all-in for $40. The big blind folds.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

Short stacks get most of their profit by shoving over late position raisers. This short stack is going to be shoving almost any ace, any two decent broadways and any pocket pair. Against a range like that you must call.

Question

You're playing in a six-max game online. In this hand a very fishy player, who raises 25% of hands, limps from middle position. It's folded to you.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Raise

When a fish who raises a very high percentage of hands limps, it means he's limping a very bad hand. You can raise and expect folds a good portion of the time - or even a lot of folds to c-bets on the flop just because his range is so weak.

Question

You're playing in the mid stages of an online tournament. In this hand it's folded to you on the button and you raise to $1,425. The small blind folds and an unknown player in the big blind calls. The flop comes T 3 5. He checks and you check behind. The turn comes the J. He bets $2,200 and you call. The river comes 4. He tanks before betting $4,000.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

This is a spot where a call is probably best. An unknown can be betting a busted draw here, a good ten or even something like QJ. The pot is too big, so make the call.

Question

You're playing in a six-max game online. In this hand, you raise to $8 under the gun and a very loose-aggressive fish calls on the button. The flop comes J 8 4. You bet $16 and he calls. The turn comes 2. You bet $44 and he raises to $88. You're pretty sure he's bluffing.

What should you do?

If you think he's bluffing you should just call and give him the opportunity to bluff again on the river.

Question

In your six-max game online, a tight regular raises to $8 under the gun. You elect to call on the button and everyone else folds. The flop comes A 4 5. Your opponent c-bets $12 and you call. The turn is the 4 and your opponent bets $32.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fold

This isn't a great board for your UTG opponent to fire multiple barrels at without at least an ace. Fold and move on.
