Question

You’re playing in a six-max game online. In this hand you raise to $8 under the gun and are called by a fish in middle position. The cut-off folds and the button makes it $25. The blinds fold.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fold

It’s going to be very difficult to play this hand out of position on the flop. Combine that with the fact that you raised UTG and your opponent knows that and still re-raised means you are probably dead. Fold this hand and move on.

Question

In your six-max game online a very tight player raises from under the gun to $8 and you call on the button. The blinds fold and the flop comes 6 7 8. He c-bets $14 and you raise to $50. He calls and the turn comes 2.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Bet

A tight opponent is very often going to have an overpair in this spot. Keep barreling. Because he’s out of position he’s going to have a very difficult time continuing with his hand. Worst-case scenario, if he does call you have a number of outs.

Question

You’re playing in the late stages of a PokerListings WSOP Freeroll. In this hand it’s folded around to an aggressive player who moves in on the button for $30,000.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: #Ah#8s

The ace is the best hand to call with though they are probably all calls in this situation. With the deuces, best-case scenario you’re flipping. Worst-case scenario, you’re crushed. The queen-high you’re very likely on the bad end of a 60/40; the ace you’re likely ahead and almost worst -case scenario you have 3 outs.

Question

You're playing six-max online. In this hand a regular raises to $6 on the button and you three-bet to $22 out of the big blind. He calls and the flop comes J 5 3.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fire flop and turn

This board is good to c-bet though it's awful to fire one barrel. All hands like 99 or 88 are going to call the flop bet so if you give up after that you're just donating your flop c-bet and three-bet. If you fire the turn and sometimes the river your opponent will fold all but the best of his holdings. Firing multiple barrels is best.

Question

You're playing in the middle stages of an online MTT. Your image is one of the more aggressive at the table and it feels like the players on your left are ready to play back at you. In this hand you raise to $1,200 and the player directly on your left raises all-in for $8,300. It's folded to the player in the small blind who shoves for $15,000.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

It's an ugly spot but you have to call. You've got just more than 20bb and your opponent could be shoving a wide range. The small blind could have realized that and be looking to snap him off with something like JJ or AQ or sometimes even worse. You could also be flipping for a very large pot. So far away from the money you have to make this call. If you win the pot you have a big stack and if you lose, well, you're out.

Question

In your six-max game online it's folded to you in the cut-off. You raise to $6 and a super-aggressive player in the small blind makes it $22. You make it $60 and he calls. The flop comes 3 J 8 and he bets $90.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fold

These spots are the worst but you simply can't do anything other than fold. You have no pair and just overcards and a backdoor flush draw. Fold and move on.

Question

You are playing an online satellite tournament. The top 100 players win seats into the WSOP Main Event. There are 700 players left currently. In this hand a player limps from middle position and you raise $1,300 to isolate. Everyone else folds and he calls. The flop comes J J 6. He checks.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Check

This is not a great board to c-bet. Never is a pair going to fold and c-betting requires you to put far too much of your stack on the line. So check this flop and play poker on the turn.
