Question

You are playing in a six-max game online, and in this hand, it’s folded to you in the cut-off. You raise to $8. The fishy player on the button calls and everyone else folds. The flop comes J 4 7. You bet $12 and he calls. The turn comes 2; you bet $25 and he calls. The river comes A.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Check-call

This one is actually pretty close between check-call and bet-fold. The idea behind check-calling is that by doing it, you allow your opponent to bluff all of his missed draws. The problem with check-calling is your opponent may check through with a naked jack that he may have called a bet with. Which is why an argument can also be made for bet-folding.

  • Bet-call (14%)
  • Bet-fold (46%)
  • Check-raise (2%)
  • Check-call (38%)

Question

You’re playing in the early stages of a $215 online tournament. In this hand you raise to $60 under the gun and are three-bet to $250 by a player in middle position. Everyone folds to the button, who calls, and the blinds fold.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fold

In these early stages you should be playing very tight. To reraise an under-the-gun raiser in middle position shows a lot of strength. The button recognizes this and still wants to call. You are at best flipping and at worst crushed. You will also be out of position for the rest of the hand. You’re best off folding this.

  • Fold (55%)
  • Call (36%)
  • Reraise (10%)

Question

Playing in a six-max game online, in this hand a huge fish limps under the gun. He has been playing 90% of hands and has been more than willing to see showdowns with as little as bottom pair. It is folded to you on the button and you raise to $8. The blinds fold and the fish calls. The flop comes 4 7 J. The fish checks and you bet $14. He calls and the turn comes 8. He bets out $5.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Call

This player is extremely loose-passive. There is no point in semi-bluffing here. Just call his minuscule bet and hope to nail the river. Do not try and bluff calling stations; they do not fold. Just wait, make a hand, and value bet relentlessly.

  • Raise to $40 (17%)
  • Raise to $25 (17%)
  • Fold (7%)
  • Call (59%)

Question

In this hand of another six-max game online, a loose-weak player raises to $6 and you three-bet to $18 for value. Everyone folds to the loose player, who calls. The flop comes A 5 7 and your opponent leads $18 into you.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Raise to $60

Your opponent is loose; you want to maximize value. Allow him to call with his worse aces and flush draws, but make him pay dearly when he is behind.

  • Fold (2%)
  • Raise to $35 (33%)
  • Raise to $60 (66%)

Question

You are playing in a six-max $1/$2 game online. In this hand you pump it to $8 and are called by a solid opponent on the button. The flop comes Q Q 7; you bet $13, and your opponent calls. The turn comes 5. You bet $28 and your opponent calls. The river comes 4; you bet $50, and your opponent shoves all-in.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Fold

Unless you and your opponent have some serious history, he is just never going to be bluff-raising in this spot. Which means he is trying to extract value with a full house, a set or trips. The bet on the river was fine, but calling his raise would be horrible. So fold now.

  • Fold (87%)
  • Call (13%)

Question

You’re playing in an online multi-table tournament. You just lost a big coin flip in the last hand and now have just over 2BB. In this hand a loose-passive player limps from early position and it's folded to the cut-off, who limps as well. The button folds, the small blind completes and you are four-handed to a 7 T 4 flop. The small blind checks.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Bet all-in

You have $800 and there’s $1,200 in the pot. You figure to have the best hand here a lot of the time. So get it in now with your short stack and hope to start a string of double-ups.

Question

In this hand of a six-max game online, it’s folded to the loose-passive small blind, who limps. You elect to check through and the flop comes 4 T 6. He checks and you bet $4. He calls and the turn comes 2. He checks and you second barrel $8. He once again calls and the river comes Q. He checks.

What should you do?

Correct Answer: Bet $20

You were drawing for the flush and you backed yourself into top pair. You still figure to have the best hand by far, so fire $20 for value and hope to get looked up by a stubborn ten.
