Poker pros visited wounded soldiers

By: Lianne Elias

While in Washington, DC, earlier this month, pro players Howard Lederer, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, and Greg "Fossilman" Raymer visited the Walter Reed Army Medical Center to meet and pay thanks to wounded American soldiers. Michael Bolcerek, president of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) accompanied the pros.

The poker personalities met nearly 100 soldiers recovering from injuries sustained in overseas conflicts.

"It was a humbling experience," said Howard Lederer. "We are all very proud of the tremendous sacrifice these men and women make to defend freedom."

Ferguson, Lederer, and Raymond played poker with the soldiers and signed autographs for several hours. The visit was capped by a display of a different sort of card skill when Chris "Jesus" Ferguson displayed his card throwing abilities by cutting a full sized carrot in half with the Ace of Spades.

The pros and Bolcerek were in the capital to attend a hearing and state their opinions about bills aimed at banning Internet gambling in the United States.
