Poker pros to land in St. Kitts for Caribbean Poker Classic
By Erin Warner
It's poker in paradise at the 2006 Caribbean Poker Classic on the island of St. Kitts this week. From Nov. 24 to Dec. 3, poker players from around the world will meet on the sunny beaches of the tropics for some intense tournament action.
An estimated $1.5 million in prize money is up for grabs in the event, plus side tournaments, satellite games and cash games. Seats and prize packages for the Caribbean Poker Classic were available through satellite and super-satellite tournaments online until Nov. 12.
The event is open to anyone 18 years of age or older, with buy-ins ranging from $200 to $6,000. Poker pros Rob Varkonyi and Kathy Liebert, as well as European poker stars such as Willie Tann, Dave Colclough and Marc Goodwin, are expected to compete.
According to the Prime Minister's Office of the St. Kitts and Nevis government, a Virgin Atlantic 747 aircraft carrying 300 passengers attending the tournament will touch down on the island Friday. The plane will depart London and stop in Antigua before heading to St. Kitts. The aircraft's arrival is said to be a first for the local airport.
