Saif Ahmad
Saifuddin Ahmad was born in Bangladesh and moved to the United States to attend college in his late teens. He earned a Masters Degree in chemical engineering from Cal-Tech.
He now owns several Tony Roma’s restaurants in the Los Angeles area and in his free time enjoys playing poker.
He started out playing bridge and competed in tournaments before gravitating to poker. He generally plays at the Bicycle and Commerce casinos in the Los Angeles area, and he has quite the long list of tournament cashes and wins in the area as well.
Ahmad began venturing into the World Series of Poker in 2005 and he’s been back to play in events each year since.
It wasn’t until 2007, however, that he finally cashed, and did so in a big way by winning the $2,000 Limit Hold’em event.
Normally a No-Limit player, Saif Ahmad told PokerListings.com that he was fairly new to Limit and decided to play in the event at the WSOP after seeing early success.
“I played my first Limit Hold'em tournament at Commerce and made it to the final table the first time I ever played,” he said. “Then I played Pot-Limit. I made final tables in Pot-Limit and Limit, so I like playing them both.”
The businessman doesn’t have plans to go pro anytime soon though. His plans for his $217,329 win were to give his money to his children. He has a son that graduated from Harvard just before the 2007 WSOP, and a daughter who graduated from Cal-Berkley.
He’s a dedicated family man, a businessman, and a talented poker player, so the players at the Commerce Casino had better look out when this bracelet winner returns to his familiar haunts in search of poker action.
