Matthew Jarvis was just like thousands of other professional poker players... and then he made the final table of the 2010 WSOP Main Event.

Born in Richmond, B.C., Canada, you could say Jarvis had a competitive nature in his genes as his dad, Norm Jarvis, was a professional golfer.

Jarvis had always been good at math and after working a number of jobs, he ended up working at a sales company where there was a small poker game.

Eventually Jarvis ended up in the casino and from there he moved on to online poker. Jarvis had close to $50,000 in lifetime earnings before he completely demolished that number by making the 2010 November Nine.

Professional poker was initially tough sell to his family but after making it to the WSOP Main Event with 16 million chips, they began to see his poker career in an entirely new light.
