Martin Jacobson was born on June 30th, 1987 in Stockholm. He is a professional Swedish poker player and the most successful Swedish tournament player of all times. He became the first Swede to win the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2014.
Jacobson started to play poker in the year 2005 on the PokerStars platform under the moniker m.nosbocaJ. Since 2008 he has been part of the live tournament scene.
Early Live Poker Successes
Martin Jacobson reached the final table of the European Poker Tour Main Event four times. In 2008 he finished third in Budapest, winning almost 200,000 euros in prize money. In August 2010, he finished second in Vilamoura earning almost 300,000 euros. At the beginning of 2011 he finished second in Deauville securing 560,000 euros in prize money. In the same year he finished fourth in Berlin where he received 230,000 euros. In addition, Jacobson finished second in the World Poker Tour Main Event in Venice in May 2009, with prize money of just under 240,000 euros.
Jacobson’s WSOP Successes
In June 2009 Martin Jacobson reached his first final table at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. He finished eighth in a No-Limit-Hold’em event. During the 2013 WSOP he played the High Roller for One Drop which had a buy-in of $111,111. He finished in sixth place (the best non-American) and secured more than $800,000 in prize money.
WSOP Champion 2014
In 2014 Martin Jacobson reached the final table of the WSOP Main Event. He started the final table which was played in November 2014 with the eighth-largest chip stack. But the Swede prevailed and after over 360 hands played at the final table he defeated the Dutch poker pro Jorryt van Hoof in the heads up of the final and won the most important poker title, $10 million in prize money, and a bracelet.
Continued Success
At the 2017 WSOP Jacobson once more finished sixth in the High Roller for One Drop, earning around $640,000. A month later he finished second in the Cardplayer Poker Tour at the Venetian Resort Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, earning around US$400,000. In February 2014 the Swede made the final table of both the A$25,000 Challenge and the A$100,000 Challenge at the Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne, securing a total prize money of 635,000 Australian dollars.
In total, Jacobson has earned more than $17 million playing poker in live tournaments making him the most successful Swedish poker player of all times.
