About Greg Hopkins

Birth Place Whittier Calif.

While young guns seem to being running roughshod over players and taking over the live tournament scene, there are still some seasoned pros out there waiting to earn their time in the spotlight. Greg Hopkins is one of those pros.

Born in Whittier, Calif., Hopkins spent most of his adult years playing in Los Angeles card rooms honing his poker skills. He saw many ups and downs in the poker world, both in cash games and at tournaments, and it wasn't until 13 years into his career that he finally won himself some poker gold.

He'd won smaller tournaments over the years, but in 2007 Greg Hopkins won himself a World Series of Poker bracelet.

The $2,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em event proved to be Hopkins best tournament, which is fitting since Pot-Limit is also his favorite game to play.

He earned $269,274 for his win, adding to his two previous World Series cashes back in 2000 when he made the final table of two events.

When asked about his bracelet win, Hopkins bowed his head and said quietly, "You have no idea how good this moment feels."

Here's hoping that one of poker's professionals who's spent plenty of time earning his success can have a few more moments like that in the future.
