Jesus comes to London
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson is a man who needs no introduction to those who follow poker.
Ferguson certainly showcased, though, why he's one of the world's best on the very first day of the first event of the inaugural WSOPE. He was kind enough to chat with PokerListings.com during the dinner break and give us the rundown of his day.
So Chris, how are you doing out there?
So far, so good. I'm down to about 16,000 or maybe 17,000 in chips with one more level to go.
What do you think about the level of poker so far?
Poker is poker, wherever you go.
We've been hearing players complaining about the dealers, have you had any problems at your table so far?
Yeah I was a little surprised. The dealers weren't quite up to speed as far as I could tell. Normally European dealers are very, very good. I guess they just don't have very many out here and they are dealing a lot of games. I mean we're playing H.O.R.S.E. and that's five games. It's one of the hardest games to deal. I don't think they play a lot of Razz in England as far as I know. Early on they were making the pace pretty slow but I think they've gotten a lot better the last few hours.
How's your table?
Is there anybody you're particularly worried about?
I guess you play against the same very skilled players wherever you go?
Yeah, that's poker.
Do you plan to play in all three events at the WSOPE?
I will be, yes.
Do you have a certain strategy heading into the last portion of the day?
You know just play good poker. I don't think there are any particular changes I'm going to make. Every time I play I just try to play well. It's nothing magical.
How is the Chris Ferguson Challenge going?
Well I accomplished my goal of turning $0 into $10,000 about two or three weeks ago. I'm still playing it and I got up to $17,000 but recently I went back down to $8,000.
What's your plan for that bankroll?
I'm going to donate $10,000 to charity but I will keep playing with it. I haven't really decided what to do with it.
Thanks very much for your time and good luck, Chris.

Ferguson promptly went back to his table and managed to accumulate 26,000 in chips. While Ferguson denies it, most would admit that there is definitely something at least a little magical about the cowboy-hat-wearing poker player who goes by the nickname "Jesus." Let's see if he can parlay that stack of chips into the very first WSOP bracelet awarded in Europe.
