Poker News in Brief: Jan. 3-9, 2011
Poker news continued to trickle in this week even though the entire community seems to have relocated to the Bahamas for the 2011 PCA.
Although the biggest headlines were Eugene Katchalov winning the $100k Super High Roller and Viktor Blom being revealed as Isildur1, there were several significant stories that were almost forgotten.
This week we’ll take a look at one of the most unusual poker tournaments ever played, a popular promotion returning to PartyPoker and another tropical poker event that begins this week.
Professional Baseball Pitcher Wins PCA Fish and Chips Showdown
Minor league pitcher Wade Townsend won the inaugural Fish and Chips Showdown at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure this week.
The event saw players compete in both a fishing derby and a poker tournament with first place going to the player who scored highest in both events.
The 27-year-old Townsend finished third in the fishing derby and won the poker tournament outright.
Townsend will take home $6,375 for his efforts.
Meanwhile the fishing competition was won by 40-year-old Dana Weeks, who runs several fishing lodges in British Columbia. She reeled in a massive barracuda to take top honors.
APT Cebu Starts Tomorrow
The Asian Poker Tour’s Cebu event will begin tomorrow at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in the Philippines.

Currently Espacejeux, Loto-Quebec’s online gaming portal, runs a variety of table games for players in the area.
Over the next few months Loto-Quebec has said it will offer online poker where Quebec players can compete against players from British Columbia.
Loto-Quebec also has plans to add sports lotteries and bingo to Espacejeux.
