Poker game robbery turns into police shootout

By Sarah Polson

Poker players at the Thornhill Social Club in Toronto were taken by surprise early Wednesday morning as two men stormed the club, robbed the game, and then ended up in a police chase and shooting to get away.

Police were called to the social club at about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday after two men reportedly entered the club, fired a gun into the ceiling and stole all the money off the tables from the poker games that were taking place.

The suspects took off in a silver SUV as police arrived, which resulted in a high-speed police chase down Highway 401. At one point, one of the suspects took out a gun and fired at the police during the chase.

Police lost the suspects after they exited the highway and the suspects are still on the loose. None of the officers were injured in the shooting.

Officers tied up traffic on Highway 401 Wednesday morning as they searched for and found shell casings from the shooting.
