Plenty of stars at WPT in Biloxi

T.J. Cloutier
Dare to take on Texan T.J. Cloutier at the WPT Gulf Coast Poker Championship starting today?

Despite several top name pros heading across the Atlantic to London for the World Series of Poker - Europe, there will still be plenty of stars shining on American soil for the next few days as well as the World Poker Tour event in Biloxi gets underway today .

The tournament is taking place at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino which just reopened a little more than a year ago after being damaged during Hurricane Katrina. Now the casino will have to contend with the forces of poker players rather than gale-force winds.

Some of the professionals expected to take in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em championship event include T.J. Cloutier was also there, where he told the Sun Herald he knows the Gulf Coast Poker Championship will be a classy one because it's being hosted by an MGM property.

Cloutier had a relatively good poker season over the summer, cashing in three World Series of Poker events. Matusow also had a successful summer at the WSOP with three cashes, but it may be his second-place finish at the WPT event at the Bellagio that will give him the drive necessary to win the event in Biloxi.

Matusow has yet to add a WPT win to his poker resume. Second place at the Bellagio in July is as close as he's come, along with his second place in the WPT Bad Boys of Poker invitational in 2006.

Also expected to take their shot at winning a championship event are J.C. Tran, Gavin Smith, Vanessa Rousso, Barry Greenstein, Kathy Liebert, James "Krazy Kanuck" Worth and Clonie Gowen.

Proving that we really can be everywhere at once,'s own Matt Showell will also be mingling among the pros to bring our readers the best live updates, reports, interviews, photos and more from the event.
