Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu is all smiles after winning first place in the WSOP No Limit Hold'em tournament on Thursday.
By: Arthur Crowson

With his win late Thursday night, the formerly unknown poker player, Brandon Cantu, was thrust into the spotlight of the poker world. Cantu played it cool and was one of the quietest players you'll see at a poker table, but he had the largest cheering squad you will ever hear in the bleachers. When the final card was dealt there was an explosion of applause from the spectators. Cantu ran into the bleachers and embraced his friends and family. It was all over and at the end of the night another poker star had been born. Cantu chatted with PokerListings.com just moments after his first WSOP victory.

How do you feel?

I don't know - it still hasn't hit me. Every time I hear it, I still don't believe it.

Did you ever think you would win a WSOP event?

I didn't think I could win it, but I thought I could make it far.

How long have you been playing poker for?

About four years. I started playing seriously about three years ago.

Where are you from?

Vancouver, Washington, but I just moved to Las Vegas about six weeks ago.

You joked after you won that you would be hanging up your cleats and retiring from the game of poker, is that true?

I was just joking. I'll be around. I'm always around.

Are there any professional players that you look up to?

Daniel Negreanu. He's a good guy. I've never even spoken to him but he just seems like a very nice guy.

How would you describe your style of play?

Very aggressive.

So where are you going tonight?

We're all going to the Tao at the Venetian. It's the place to party.

Congratulations on your win Brandon.
