PKR takes poker in Germany to new heights

Will Katja come out to play in her homeland?
By Erin Warner
More often than not, poker is played hunkered over a laptop or in a dim and malodorous card room. Poker room PKR, however, is proposing to take the game to new heights - literally.
The top floor of the Cologne Triangle in Germany will be the site of what organizers are hoping is the country's largest and most glamorous poker tournament.
The building - standing 103 meters high overlooking the Rhine - is normally reserved for exclusive corporate events and parties. Players will enjoy the penthouse view while competing to break a world record in what PKR is billing as Poker in the Sky.
The record up for breaking is the attempt to get the highest number of players in a single day, July 22. A unique structure is required to accommodate the event, which starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 8 p.m.
Players qualify for the 200 seats in the main event through tournaments running throughout the day and culminating with the crowning of the Poker In the Sky champion.
The amateur tournament is expected to draw 1,000 players, who will attempt to win a luxury trip to Mallorca valued at €10,000, an Apple Mac Book pro, and LCD flat screen TV, a Playstation 3 and other prizes.
