One of the most forward-thinking poker rooms is, not surprisingly, taking a similar approach to their World Series promotions. And PKR is making sure their WSOP debut is a memorable one, with qualifiers to a ton of events and a hefty incentive to become one of the Team PKR stars of the future.
"We're always looking for ways to innovate and bring more excitement to the game of poker," says PKR.com Cardroom Manager Neil Wright. "This promotion is no different."
Part one: The Ultimate World Series Experience Package.
At least five PKR players will claim $12,500 packages for the WSOP, each with $10k to spend on World Series buy-ins and $2,500 to cover travel and expenses.
Players can of course use the money to take on the Main Event, or spread their stake around in events of their choice.
"This promotion is all about letting them experience the World Series the way they always dreamed of," says Wright. "For some players the focus is entirely on the $12m Main Event...
"But a lot of other players would rather concentrate on playing for bracelets in events where they specialize - like Omaha, heads-up, shorthanded and so on. We wanted to give these players a chance to customize their own World Series and now they've got it."
So on to part two: PKR is also unveiling "Team PKR" - a select group of specialists chosen through qualifying tournaments on PKR.com.
The events the site is running qualifiers to: the World Series Ladies Event, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship Heads-Up event and the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shorthanded event.
"We wanted PKR.com represented across the board at the World Series," said Wright. "It would be a major coup for a Team PKR member to take a bracelet at our first World Series and we want to take our best possible shot - and find our Team PKR stars of the future."
The reward for becoming one of those stars of the future?
Any PKR player that makes a final table in a World Series event will automatically win $10,000. Any event winners? A sponsorship deal to represent the site for a year with $100,000 in buy-ins for the world's richest events.
A ton of satellites and qualifiers are already up and running - at all levels, from high-rolling $250 Grand Final direct-entry qualifiers to $1.28 mini-satellites - and for a full schedule, visit PKR.
