PKR bounty tourney showcases killer foursome
Online cardroom PKR is putting on a special tournament this Thursday featuring some of the hottest players in the game.
Thursday's special $10,000 guaranteed Asian Poker Tour Bounty tournament will feature "November Nine" WSOP final tablist David "Chino" Rheem, along with the APT's three high-flying ambassadors - J.C. Tran, Nam Le and Quinn Do. Entry for the tournament is just $22.
In addition to the regular prize pool, there are bounties up for grabs. Any player who knocks out one of the four pros will win a $270 entry into a PKR satellite for the APT's late January 2009 tournament in Manila.
But winning those bounties won't be an easy task; all four of the guest pros have had an outstanding year at the tables.
Rheem, of course, finished in seventh place at the WSOP Main Event this year. Put that together with another WSOP final table and an L.A. Poker Classic final table, and the man they call Chino has already won nearly $1.9 million in 2008.
Tran had the best WSOP of his already highly successful career this summer, cashing seven times en route to three final tables and snagging his first gold bracelet in a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event.
Tran's career earnings currently sit at more than $6.8 million, placing him 21st on the all-time tournament money list, and 2008 will be the third straight year in which the top-flight pro has made more than $1 million in major tournaments.
Le is enjoying one of the best years of his poker career in 2008, already having won just shy of $2 million on the strength of two WPT final-table appearances and a win in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour's Macau High Roller Event in September.
Do, meanwhile, is wrapping up a career-boosting year that has seen him double his lifetime winnings thanks to two final tables that he shared with Le. In February, Do took second place to Phil Ivey at the same L.A. Poker Classic final table that saw Le finish in fourth place.
Then in September, Do finished in third place while Le went on to win the High Roller event in Macau. All told, Do has taken down over $1.1 million in 2008.
The $10,000 guaranteed tournament gets going at 20:00 GMT on Thursday evening at PKR. Players who claim a bounty will be able to play for their $5,000 APT Manila prize package, which includes the tournament buy-in and an additional $2,300 spending money, on PKR any Monday through Jan. 12.
Anyone who doesn't already have a PKR account should check out the PokerListings review of the 3-D online poker room for a $250 sign-up bonus.
