PKR Antes Up For Africa
PKR has named Ante Up for Africa its charitable partner for the next year.
The partnership will see PKR and its 3.5 million players support poker's most popular charity through a series of activities designed to raise both cash and awareness.
Ante Up for Africa is a non-profit organization founded by Don Cheadle, Annie Duke and Norman Epstein in 2006 to aid the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.
To date, the organization has raised more than $3 million for partners Refugees International, Enough Project and Darfur Peace and Development Organization, mostly though its annual charity tournament at the World Series of Poker.
PKR players will be now able to make cash donations using player points, play in regular charity tournaments and pledge a percentage of their online tournament winnings to the cause.
"We're hopeful that our association with PKR and its loyal fan base will help to raise awareness and provide relief for people suffering in a devastating humanitarian crisis," said Cheadle.
PKR's team of sponsored pros will also wear Ante Up for Africa branding at major poker events and the site will sponsor a number of celebrity participants in the Ante Up for Africa tournament at the 2010 WSOP.
"Everyone in poker has the utmost admiration and respect for the work that Ante Up For Africa does year in, year out," said PKR Marketing Director Simon Prodger.
"It has proved itself to be an important part of the wider poker community, and it made perfect sense for us to link in our social responsibility programme."
Duke applauded PKR's commitment.
"Once again we are seeing the tremendous generosity of the poker community," she said. "We are so appreciative of PKR's support."
