Phil Ivey and the Gold Nugget are teaming up to host the Budding Ivey Foundation Charity Poker Tournament on July 1.

The charity tournament will be a No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament to raise money for Ivey's recently created nonprofit organization. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Budding Ivey Foundation.

The Budding Ivey Foundation was created by the Full Tilt Poker pro and his mother Pamela Simmons-Ivey to continue the good work of Ivey's grandfather Leonard "Bud" Simmons. The organization is dedicated to providing educational opportunities and empowering at-risk children and their families.

"Right now we're focused on raising funds for Empowered 2 Excel," Ivey said. "The North Las Vegas children's academy closed its doors this spring due to lack of funds. We want to see those doors open again."

Empowered 2 Excel gives disadvantaged children who qualify academically a chance to participate in enhanced learning programs.

The recommended donation to participate in the tournament is $1,000. Optional $500 re-donations will be available for more tournament chips through three, 20-minute rounds. Plus participants can purchase another last chance add-on of two times the starting stack for $500.

The tournament is open to the public and offers up a $10,000 first-place prize provided by a sponsor of the event. Those interested in playing can reserve a seat at buddingiveyfoundation.org or by contacting Lisa Wheeler at BIGNC@mac.com.

The charity poker tournament will also take place in conjunction with the Budding Ivey Game Night Celebration and the Sixth Annual World Series of Barbecue. Poker tournament participants may attend the private party that starts at 6 p.m. at The Tank. The tournament gets under way at 8 p.m.
