Forget Las Vegas or Macau, Phil Ivey is going to Calgary for the Canadian Poker Tour’s Summer Showdown Series this summer.

Ivey League is going to sponsor the series, which runs from July 24-Aug. 3 at Grey Eagle Resort and Casino with 10 events and $500,000 in guaranteed prize pools.

“We created Ivey League to give those passionate about poker a place to hone their skills and learn from the best,” says Ivey, winner of 10 World Series of Poker bracelets.

“Teaming up with a high-caliber tournament like the CPT Summer Showdown Poker Series represents the next step for us.”

Tournament buy-ins in the series range from $200 to $3,300 but on July 27 Team Ivey will host a high-roller event with a guaranteed prize pool of at least $100,000.

Throughout the series players can earn points towards the Canadian Poker Tour’s Player of the Year Race not to mention Global Poker Index points.

One of the major incentives for international poker pros to come to Canada? No withholding tax.

“This series looks to be the largest we have ever hosted as we expect prize pools to more than double the half a million dollars in guarantees,” said CPT spokesman Richard Keeley.

“With players able to participate at 18 years of age and with no withholding tax, Canada is a premiere destination for players from around the world.”

Every winner at the CPT Summer Showdown Poker Series will also receive access to Ivey League’s Bachelor Poker Training Program.
