Phil Hellmuth tops WPT Championship
By Erik Sylven
Phil Hellmuth has never won a World Poker Tour (WPT) tournament, but that could change this week at Bellagio. The "Poker Brat" tops the WPT Championship after two days of poker action.
At the end of Day 2 of the Fifth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic, Phil Hellmuth is in the lead with $528,000 in chips, ahead of Roland De Wolfe who sits with $526,000, and Sorel Mizzi with $499,000.
A number of other strong competitors are in the running as well, including, Patrik Antonius, Paul Wasicka, Sam Farha, Gavin Griffin, Chip Reese, Freddy Deeb, Ram Vaswani, Carlos Mortensen and Phil Ivey.
Of course, lots of big names were knocked out during Day 2 as well. Strong players such as Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Mike Matusow, David Sklansky, Gus Hansen, Doyle Brunson, Dan Harrington, Vanessa Rousso, Allen Cunningham, Joe Hachem, Erick Lindgren, David Benyamine and many more have been sent to the rails.
This year's biggest sensation at Bellagio, Anna Wroblewski, who won a side event a few days ago, is still hanging in there. The 21-year old has built up a big stack and is in a good position before the start of Day 3.
Action at the Fontana Room starts off again at 12 p.m. (PDT), and you can follow Phil Hellmuth's hunt for a WPT title in our Live Tournaments Section.
