Phil Hellmuth and Alex Rodriguez spotted in illegal NYC poker club

By Lianne Elias

Poker pro Phil Hellmuth and Yankees star Alex Rodriguez played poker in an underground Manhattan card room last month, according to the New York Post.

It was recently revealed that the two legends made an appearance at a poker club near Union Square in New York City at around midnight on September 21.

Sources claim the stars were all smiles, happily signing autographs and behaving politely to the other players in the establishment. They reportedly purchased thousands of dollars worth of chips and sat down to play some hands in a private, high stakes Texas Hold'em game.

Wagering in underground clubs in New York is not illegal but charging admission and taking a cut of the pot is. Regardless, illegal poker dens have experienced a renaissance this year in Manhattan, with clubs opening up in office suites and commercial spaces across the city.
