Review

Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book is the third volume in the Little Book series from the mind of the poker pro turned author. Just like his earlier books, this latest installment is well-written, easy to read and can be completely hilarious - something poker books rarely spoil readers with.

The book starts with a foreword by 2000 World Series of Poker champion Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and an introduction before leaping right into the practice hands.

In reality, Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book is a practice guide where the reader is asked to make decisions on play in different stages of a poker hand. The practice hands are divided into chapters on cash-game play and the different stages of tournament play, making the reader well aware of the uniqueness of the different game types. Almost all practice hands come with little stories, and they are all real hands played by Gordon at one time or another. All the hands are well explained and come with a nice graphic layout of the play.

As we have come to expect from Gordon, this book is pretty much for anyone wanting to improve his poker game. It's a very easy read and entertains the reader while teaching important lessons on how to make crucial decisions at the poker table. If you do not own his first publication, The Little Green Book go pick them both up at the same time, read and enjoy.

The book consists of 10 main chapters titled:

  1. Cash Games
  2. Early Tournament Play
  3. Middle Tournament Play
  4. Late Tournament Play
  5. The Final Table
  6. Sit & Gos
  7. Satellites and Super Satellites
  8. Afterward
  9. Further Study
  10. A Short Guide to Poker Jargon

The book totals 377 pages including the foreword, acknowledgements, player attributes and an introduction.
