Heat 2 is over for both groups at the Party Poker Premier League Mixed Game Championship in London and two players helped their chances for the final table with big moves today.

Italian Max Pescatori used his double-up card and a tight strategy in Pot-Limit Omaha to rise to the point lead in Group A.

WPT Season 9 Player of the Year Andy Frankenberger also helped his cause in the Group B bracket, winning today's heat to narrow the gap between him and Andrew Feldman for the points lead.

Pescatori Leapfrogs Dempsey for Group A Lead

After earning just three points in yesterday’s No-Limit Holdem heat, Pescatori needed a big day to get back in contention and that’s what happened.

Electing to play his double-up card and avoid confrontations with players targeting him, Pescatori played his strategy perfectly to win his heat and add 16 points to his total.

At 19 points, Pescatori is now almost guaranteed a spot at the final table and will have a shot at the $100,000 first-place prize.

Heat 1 leader James Dempsey had the opposite kind of day, busting in sixth and scoring no points to allow Pescatori to jump into the overall lead.

Runner-up in Heat 2 today was Tony G. who also needed a big day to shore up his poor performance from yesterday.

Despite controlling 1.2 million of the 1.8 million chips in play at one point, Guoga couldn’t close it out but still managed to add six points to his total to bring him up to eight.

The players from Group A will return on Wednesday for the Pot Limit Holdem round with just Jennifer Tilly still having her double-up card in play.

The point tally coming into Heat 3 for Group A:

  • Max Pescatori 19 points
  • James Dempsey 16 points
  • Tony G. 8 points
  • Matt Gianetti 7 points
  • Luke Schwartz 6 points
  • Jennifer Tilly 3 points

Frankenberger Outlasts Mizzi in Group B Heat

WPT Season 9 Player of the Year Frankenberger defeated Sorel Mizzi heads-up for the Heat win in Group B.

Bouncing back from playing “one of the worst handsLuke Schwartz said he has ever seen yesterday, Frankenberger ran the table in Pot-Limit Omaha today to add another eight points to his total.

Now at 14 points he’s seized control of his own fate and still has his double-up card to play tomorrow.

Still leading the group despite a rougher day today is Andrew Feldman, who finished fourth for just two points. Added to his 16 from yesterday, however, he still holds the top spot.

Mizzi’s runner-up finish today pushed his total up to eight and keeps him in position for a run at the final table tomorrow.

Mike Sexton in third, Yevgeniy Timoshenko in fifth and PartyPoker qualifier Ben Carpenter in sixth round out the bustouts from Heat 2.

Points for Group B heading into the final heat tomorrow:

  • Andrew Feldman 18 points
  • Andy Frankenberger 14 points
  • Mike Sexton 9 points
  • Sorel Mizzi 8 points
  • Ben Carpenter 4 points
  • Yevgeniy Timoshenko 2 points
