Event 17 of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), the second to last event of the 2006 series, drew a field of nearly 700 players who collectively generated a prize pool of $695,000, nearly doubling the $400,000 guarantee.
The $1,000 Limit Hold'em tournament, which was held Sept. 30, attracted several top name pros, one of who made it to the final table, and a poker author.
The tournament lasted just under 12 hours and culminated in a quick chop of the prize pool as the two remaining players prepared to go heads-up. Two hands later the game was over, won by a Hungarian player named laurentia.
Aside from laurentia, the final table included top Canadian pro Gavin "birdguts" Smith, as well as three American players, one Swede, one Israeli, an Austrian and a Brit.
