An EPT Dublin main event champion hasn't been crowned since Reuben Peters in 2007 but an Irishman could get a great new tradition started in 2016.

2014 Irish Poker Open Champion Patrick Clarke used a big overbet on the last hand of the night to soar into the chip lead for Day 5.

Getting Christopher Kruk to bite on the big bet, Clarke's nut flush moved the big pile of chips in his direction.

With just 16 players remaining Clarke bagged up 2.9m in chips to gain pole position for the run to the final table.

A substantial €561,900 is on the table for first which would just about triple his career earnings.

Urbanovich Doubles Through Mateos Late

While Clarke has the upper hand two of the youngest and most talented players in the world can still throw a wrench in his plans.

Polish young gun Dzmitry Urbanovich has about half of Clarke's chips but still sits in the Top 5 with 1.4m.

A late double up with a set of fours against the other young superstar, Spain's Adrian Mateos, reversed their position in the counts.

Mateos still hung on to finish the day with 651,000 and a seat in the final 16. Beginning-of-day chip leader Alex Goulder and Rhys Jones, both of the UK, also made it though.
