According to the Gibraltar Chronicle, PartyGaming Plc. has identified 80 jobs at the Gibraltar branch of the company that will be eliminated. The company currently employs 332 people in Gibraltar.

The company confirmed to the Chronicle that the jobs were being abolished but that they expect to retain some of those employees by moving them into as many as 25 new jobs that are opening up.

The downsizing comes after the company reviewed its operations as a result of the U.S. passing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) which takes another step toward prohibiting online gambling in the country. Since the act was passed, PartyGaming has stopped taking U.S. customers at its online poker site, PartyPoker.com.

Last week the company had announced 800 layoffs in its Indian branch. PartyGaming did use contacts and a program of links with other companies such as HSBC to find jobs for 320 of those employees.
