Palms River King Freeroll to be a reality TV program

Nothing short of winning a seat at the Palms Las Vegas River King $1 Million Freeroll will get players closer to the felt than watching the cards turn on a new television show.

The summer event is to be filmed for a poker-oriented reality program, the Palms announced this week.

From now until June, players can qualify for the tournament, the winner of which will earn a $500,000 first prize. The Palms will also pay out cash prizes to top finalists.

Players will have to clock in a lot of hours at the casino's poker room to qualify for the event. A minimum of 300 hours of play is requisite to enter, with stack sizes growing with hours of play.

Those who have 300-349 hours come to the freeroll with $2,500 in chips; 350 to 399 hours equals $3,000 in tournament chips; 400 to 449 hours totals $3,500 in chips; 450-449 is $4,000 in chips; and more than 500 hours of play earns $5,000.

Early in the tournament, the top two players from each table advance to traditional-elimination style semifinal and 10-person final table.

As many as 30 seats will be reserved at the semifinal stage for players who qualified at casinos outside the state.
