Online pro wins first live tournament at WSOPC Indiana
By Sarah Polson
Chad Batista, a 25-year-old online poker pro, broke into live tournaments in Indiana with a final table showing in the $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em event Sunday and then a win in the main event Thursday at the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Caesars Indiana.
After conquering a field of 169 players, Batista takes home $262,002 of the $819,650 prize pool. He also wins entry into the $10,000 Main Event of the 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
Coming into the WSOPC Caesars Indiana, Batista was relatively unknown in the live poker world. However, this live-tournament win will be added to a poker resume that includes winning two PartyPoker.com million-guarantee events in one month.
His online experience translated well to the live tournament which brought him to a final table that included Robert Arthur, William Brown, Douglas Carli, Joel Casper, Ed Corrado, Thomas Fuller, Hoyt Lance and Hilbert Shirey.
Heads-up play came down to Batista and Lance with Lance holding an intimidating chip lead. Batista battled back to even it up and ultimately won the event.
Final table results were as follows:
| Place | Name | Prize |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Chad Batista | $262,002 |
| 2nd | Hoyt Lance | $137,471 |
| 3rd | Edward Corrado | $80,865 |
| 4th | Herbert Shirey | $64,692 |
| 5th | Douglas Carli | $48,519 |
| 6th | Joel Casper | $40,433 |
| 7th | Robert Arthur | $32,346 |
| 8th | William Brown | $24,260 |
| 9th | Thomas Fuller | $16,173 |
Next stop on the WSOP Circuit tour will be Harrah's Lake Tahoe with events running from Dec. 9-19. For information about this and all other 2006 WSOPC events, please see 2006 WSOPC Coverage.
