Ongame Network Poker Classic announced

Ongame Network has announced it will be hosting an online poker tournament with the largest prize pool ever offered in the history of online poker. The Ongame Network Poker Classic will boast a $5 million prize pool and award first place with a minimum of $1 million. The tournament will be played online until just 45 players remain, at which point the event will be paused and the players flown to Barcelona, Spain, where they will finish their battle in a live series.

The 45 finalists will resume the tournament at the prestigious Casino de Barcelona, a European Poker Tour stop, with the same chip stacks they had when the online event was paused. The live series will run from September 30 until October 1, 2006.

The top 45 players will receive the $5,200 championship tournament buy-in and a travel package from Ongame worth about $5,000. The total cost of the travel packages will be footed by Ongame rather than taken from the total prize pool.

Interested players can win seats exclusively through qualifying rounds held at Ongame Network sites, a long list that includes PokerRoom.com, the third largest Internet poker room, as well as EuroPoker.com and HoldemPoker.com.

Satellite events will begin at Ongame Network sites on Monday, March 27, and will run for the next several months. Players can enter tournaments for as little as $1.
