Oklahoma sheriff, other law officers accused of illegal gambling
By Sarah Polson
A multi-county grand jury indictment in Oklahoma was unsealed today to reveal charges of illegal gambling and neglect of duty against the Grady County sheriff, a sheriff's deputy, and two Chickasha police officers.
Sheriff Kieran McMullen, his wife police Lt. Helen McMullen, police officer Jerry Don Tyler, and sheriff's deputy Robert Clinton Cacy each face felony counts of conspiracy, conducting illegal gambling, and being engaged in illegal gambling as a peace officer.
The group is accused of trying to convert the Chickasha Elks Lodge into a mini, illegal casino. A yearlong investigation and Sept. 6 raid revealed that they had established poker, blackjack, and lotteries at the lodge as well as brought in slot machines.
The four could also face misdemeanor charges of permitting gambling and willful neglect of duty.
