Review

Making another appearance in the Masters of Poker series, Phil Hellmuth gives the viewer insight into the strategies that have earned him millions of dollars and poker fame.

Hellmuth describes the basics of tournament entry and play, offering his own advice on how to become a successful live tournament player.

The DVD offers information on a variety of topics:

  • how to enter a tournament
  • the value of stealing blinds
  • short-stack play
  • bluffing and tells

The information is presented in a very basic format and fits the inexperienced player well; however, for most experienced tournament players it yields virtually nothing they won't know already.

Phil Hellmuth is a very successful player, and the advice he gives is solid in its simplicity. The problem is that it's a bit too simple, though. When you purchase a DVD named Phil Hellmuth's Million Dollar Texas Hold'em Tournament Strategies, you tend to expect more. T

he production values are also a little cheaper than you might hope for from a DVD featuring one of the biggest personalities in poker.

A decent product for players new to tournament play, the DVD offers solid advice at a low price. On the downside, it could have been packaged a lot more appealingly, and for a product marketed as a "Million Dollar" one, it offers virtually nothing new or groundbreaking.
